Changes in curriculum?

What needs to change about our curriculum when our students have the ability to reach audiences far beyond our classroom walls?

We need to think about adding computer skills into the curriculum. Students are asked to learn typing at the Junior High age but are typing much younger.

We need to have more technology available within the district, especially the lower elementary so the students can use it. Most students have access to computers either at home or at the library, so they are pretty comfortable using it.

We need to in a way "Expand our horizons". We need to not be afraid of what is out their and more so excited about what is out there and available. Not everything on the internet is bad and we need to remember that.

Technology is allowing us to communicate and do business throughout the world right from our kitchen table. I believe that eventually our curriculum will need change from state and national benchmarks to a world wide curriculum that will allow our children to learn and compete on a even playing field with children in other countries

Technology availability in every classroom.

I think time and management is a major concern for most. Our students are currently only in front of a computer for 30 minutes each day during school. I am excited about the possible use of a mobile lab in our building. Management of class time will also need to be adjusted.

I think one area that needs inclusion would be the area of service based projects. The area of impact could not only be on the local level, but extend into the state, national, and international level. Our students need to develop a real connection to the world around them that the Internet has introduced them too.
Another change would be the creation of an e-portflio that contained the collective whole of a students work during High School, this could eventually be expanded to the student's whole school career as the lower elementary school gained acccess to more computers. Portfolio's are already an important part of Teacher Education at Ft. Hays State University.

We need to do more "thinking outside the box" as we prepare methods to deliver the curriculum. With a global scale so accessible, we need to prepare our students to not only know the content, but how to collaborate and communicate effectively as well. ...21st century skills???

I feel in both the subjects that I teach, I can do a better job in connecting the students with all kinds of information out in the world that available. I know too, that we need to be careful of what sites are of valuable information and what sites are just opinions
I also feel, that time and State standards get in the way of students learning what they need to learn in a trade that they will eventually go into. The tools for them to get the information for careers that they can go into later in life are very important and those life tools are going to be technology.

I know that I can use some of the technology in my classroom, by having the kids keep their assignments on line and keeping a log entry on some of the assignments that I already do. Then I could give immediate feedback to the students. Also, I could give additional sites for students to go into, so they could advance in a subject area that they are really interested in. They need time to explore, just as we need time to explore
